The Japan story
Japan.
Closer to the landscape.
A rural hospitality concept shaped around mountain scenery, local culture and the quieter experiences beyond the familiar view.

Beyond
the postcard.
Yamanashi formed a distinct part of the project's Japan research.
The archive explored a destination through more than its scenery. Mountains and lakes sat alongside vineyards, local food, cultural places and seasonal experiences in the early presentations.
Research and proposed location studies included Kiyosato, Hokuto and the wider Mount Fuji area. The question was how small inns could give visitors a base for discovering these places while connecting the stay with nearby businesses and local life.
This is a record of the concept and destination research. The places pictured are not presented as completed or operating Terri Torri properties.

A small inn.
A fuller journey.
The Japan concept brought the place to stay and the destination around it into one story. Hospitality was intended to help visitors spend more time with the character of the area.
- 01
The landscape as a setting
A compact rural stay conceived around the experience of being there, with the surrounding scenery and local context shaping its identity.
- 02
Local knowledge in the guest journey
The proposed discovery platform connected accommodation with information about food, culture and experiences, making the wider destination part of the visit.
- 03
Small hospitality with shared support
The original model paired independent innkeeping with shared operating and booking ideas, alongside opportunities for nearby services and businesses.
The concept's proposed services and operating model are preserved here as part of its history.
A place is more
than its view.
Selected photographs from the original 2019 Japan site-visit archive: village streets, cultural places, winter recreation and local products. Together, they trace the wider experience around a rural stay.

An idea worth preserving

A wider possibility.
Terri Torri Ventures is currently inactive. The Japan work remains part of its portfolio: an exploration of how small-scale accommodation could support a richer rural travel experience. It sits alongside a wider Southeast Asian vision and a specific Malaysia focus.
